Mobius Obvious

Lir Katz & Andres Gurwicz

Mobius Obvious

The exhibition "Mobius Obvious" collaborates between artist-couple Lir Katz & Andres Gurwicz, whose works combine print, sculpting, movement, music, and video.

The title's wordplay suggests the guiding principle at the base of their mutual work: the daily routine cycle and its implications on romance, the dramas, the liberation, the chaos, the order, the creation, and the desire in the couple's personal lives.

The "Mobius Band" has no beginning and no end, no interior nor exterior. The exhibition operates the same way, as an experimental platform allowing the artist couple to blur between points on timelines, movement, and memories/prophecies from their lives.

At the center of the exhibition, there is a sculptural installation made of sheets and wooden lintels. It is surrounded by 150 prints hanging on the walls. The video-dance piece "Mobius Obvious" is screened in the inner gallery room and the soundtrack occupies and convoys the whole exhibition viewing experience.

By repeating the sculptural images and broadcasting video and music loops, Katz and Gurwicz create a time suspension experience. In the installment presenting recycled sheets gathered from people and hotels, there is a noticeable presence of moments that passed and are now gone. The prints show a single replicated image, which creates affluence of unique moments.

Action Space:

Nature of things is the fifth exhibition of the annual theme of 2020, which is dedicated to exhibitions relating to the concept Action Space.

The year 2020 at Alfred Gallery will focus on examining the concept exhibition space and expanding its initial definition. At the dawn of the third decade of the 21st century, we seek to challenge the traditional conception of exhibitions and exhibition spaces, and to re-examine their role in the artistic field. Upon reaching 15 years of activity, the Alfred cooperative members seek to open a practical discussion around these issues and try to redefine our mission as a collaborative gallery and as an art and cultural institute. This year the gallery will focus on exhibiting projects and exhibitions that focus on collaborations that reflect on transitions between mediums and disciplines.
