Luminos Screen

On Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 20:00, a group exhibition under the title Luminous Screen will open at Alfred – A Cooperative Institute for Art and Culture. The exhibition will include paintings, drawings, digital drawings and works in new media.

The works in the exhibition demonstrate different strategies of making art in the digital age. They reflect in various ways the reality that screens create, which are used for photography, image processing, sharing and the consumption of images: from images on a screen as a source of observation for oil paintings, through the use of an iPad as a notebook, to creating a digitally drawn computer game.

Or Inbar creates intrinsically intimate digital drawings, by using drawing and painting apps. Inbar turns her smartphone and iPad into sketchbooks that describe everyday experiences. The use of these digital tools guides the aesthetic language and painterly quality.

Shira Kamrad creates oil paintings by observation from photographs on her smartphone screen. These paintings have distinctive characteristics that indicate the source of observation: the flash, a phosphorescent green glow, and unprepared snapshot photography resulting with accidental angles and compositions. Kamrad intensifies the color and creates abstractions and blurring in the painting process. Through the laborious work of painting, the transient becomes meticulous.

Dganit Elyakim and Shahar Sarig exhibit one episode of an interactive opera based on platform games (two-dimensional computer games), an audio-visual recording that involves movement. By performing certain actions, the player controls the musical elements, thus making them take part of the operatic composition.

The actor activates musical elements, while performing actions, which make them performs the operatic work.

* The art work of Dganit Elyakim and Shahar Sarig was supported by the Rabinovich Foundation.
