Festival Poalot at Alfred

For the first time, this year Alfred – Cooperative Institute for Art and Culture has initiated a multidisciplinary festival including about 15 artists from diverse fields: dance, theater, music, voice, sound and performance. The works address the theme of Alfred Gallery’s exhibition season, Flooded, while also addressing the structure of the exhibition space and the specific site in which they are presented.

The objective of the festival Poalot at Alfred is to expand and enrich the treatment of the annual exhibition theme and to provide visual, vocal, musical and performative expressions of the topic “flooding”. It also aims to broaden and promote Alfred’s activity by creating a unique platform that enables artists from various fields to create and exhibit at the Alfred Institute in diverse ways.

The range of performances to be held within the festival Poalot at Alfred fluctuates on a wide scale between abstract-contrast performances that emphasize shapes and colors and theatrical, narrative and personal performances.

Exhibition Season: Flooded

The festival Poalot at Alfred is a special, first-time initiative at the Alfred Cooperative’s spaces and gallery, held within the 2022-2023 exhibition season, dedicated to the theme: Flooded.

We live in an era that is flooded and flooding. The world is overflowing like a river. While we must flow with the current, we actually have trouble keeping our heads above water, especially with FOMO hovering above us. Boundaries melt in the spheres of the psychological / consciousness and the physical / corporeal / geographical. There are too many possibilities and choosing between them is confusing.

Through the exhibition series “Flooded”, Alfred Gallery strives to anchor islands in the unending flow of events, images, talks and words. Although the flooding is uncontrollable, it is not passive. It is a conflict arena, an upheaval that threatens to spill over, it is movement, struggle and conciliation. We have asked artists for proposals and ideas for exhibitions and events that flood or are flooded, and consider different aspects of this exhibition season’s title.
